Background
Matthew Ploeger is an appellate attorney working with Sutliff & Stout in Houston and Austin. Before law school he earned B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. degrees in Sociology of Law-Criminology from the University of Texas at Austin, then earned his J.D. from Stanford Law School (2001), where he served as Executive Editor of the Stanford Law Review and was a research assistant to Professor Marc A. Franklin. He began his legal career as a judicial clerk to Chief Justice Nathan L. Hecht of the Texas Supreme Court and spent over a decade in the appellate practice group of a major law firm before opening his own appellate practice. He handles all manner of appeals, summary judgments, jury charges, and post-verdict motions, and has been named a Texas Super Lawyer every year since 2019.
