Background
John J. 'Jake' Schickel is Of Counsel at Coker Law in Jacksonville, Florida, and a founding partner of the firm. He has practiced law in Florida for over five decades and is recognized as one of the state's most decorated trial lawyers in personal injury and civil trial practice. Before co-founding Coker Law, Schickel served as an Assistant State Attorney and as Chief Assistant State Attorney for Florida's 4th Judicial Circuit. He has served on The Florida Bar Board of Governors (2005–2011), as past president of the Jacksonville Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates, and as founding president and Master of the Bench of the E. Robert Williams American Inn of Court (2007–2009). He is board-certified as a Civil Trial Specialist by the National Board of Trial Advocacy. Schickel has been recognized as a Florida Super Lawyer every year since the program's inception and was honored by The Florida Bar in 2006 with the Justice Harry Lee Anstead Board-Certified Lawyer of the Year award. In 2017, the E. Robert Williams Inn of Court named their chapter's professionalism award in his honor. He has also served as president of the Jacksonville Defense Lawyers Association and as chair of the Jacksonville Electric Authority Board. Schickel earned his B.A. in Political Science (1970) and J.D. (1972) from the University of Florida. He is admitted to all courts of the State of Florida, the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, and the Supreme Court of the United States. He also serves as an adjunct professor at Florida Coastal School of Law.
